Puzzle jug

Drinking games are nothing new as this puzzle jug shows. Popular in public houses during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries the puzzle was how to drink from the jug without the ale coming out of the holes in the neck and spilling down your shirt. The jugs trick was a hollow handle through which the ale could be sucked via a spout. Of course it wasn’t that simple as further spouts and sneaky holes meant these all had to be stopped with the fingers before the ale could be drunk.
