Bird Fountain Under a Glass Dome
This object is known as a bird fountain and was made in England in the late nineteenth century. The birds are made from spun and trailed glass with glass fibre tails. Objects such as this were often made by glassworkers at the end of the working day using leftover glass from the furnaces or off-cuts from other pieces. It is under a glass dome, which the Victorians used to cover their prized objects, and would have been used as a centrepiece or mantle ornament.
