Aesop composing his fables

This painting is called Aesop Composing his Fables and was painted by Charles Landseer in the 19th century. Aesop was a teller of fables in Ancient Greece. A fable is a short story which illustrates a moral told in an entertaining way and the characters in fables are usually animals who act and talk like people. One of Aesop’s fables familiar with us today is the tale of the hare and the tortoise which illustrates the moral that ‘slow and steady wins the race’.
